People Watching

I love people watching in airports, you never know what you will see. On our layover in Atlanta sunday, we found a seat at our gate to hang out at for a while. It turned out to be quite entertaining. We were near a place with phones and computers, for those who missed their flight, and needed to get on another plane so people were constantly coming by. To get a good idea of how this was set up, the phones were mounted on chest high walls, with a desk on the other side. The desk was for people to plug in their laptops and get internet access. We were sitting in chairs behind the chairs for the laptop desk.

So an african american man with a purple suit (and I mean PURPLE) was sitting behind the desk, watching John Wayne movies on his laptop. Shortly after he sat down, a crowd of people came by who had just missed their flight. One by one, they came to the phones, and asked the purple suit man questions. He first responded with, "I don't work here!" We laughed as he turned and shrugged his shoulders at us and the other couple sitting near us. I would guess probably 10 people came to the phones and thought he worked for the airlines, asking him all sorts of questions.

He turned to us and said, "What is this?? Am I on candid camera or something??" Finally he just started answering the questions! Haha, we could tell he was well traveled. Another lady joined him, and also began to get asked the questions. One lady asked her if she worked there, and when she said "no" the other man said, "What can I help you with?" Haha. We joked that airtran should be paying him to sit there and answer all the customers questions.

Another quick story: So Joel was in line at the ticketing counter on one of his trips to visit me in Wisconsin. Apparently there was a women, probably in her 50's, anxious to get somewhere. Instead of going around the rope dividers that guide the people in line, she was ducking under all of them...and going quite fast. Joel said the lady started moving so fast, that eventually when she came to the end, the upper half of her was moving faster than her legs, causing her to run into a window that lead to the outside....HEAD FIRST!! Not only did she run into the window, but it knocked her out cold! Right there in the airport! Joel said he had to turn away to keep from laughing, because she caused it all on her own.
